On the DU campus, fall brings a host of firsts and festivities

Although I always want summer to last longer, it doesn’t always oblige. Fall came quickly for me this year. I took some vacation time late in the season, and when I returned to campus, the green leaves had turned into an ombre of yellow, orange and red, the colors that signal shorter days and cooler weather. Autumn also brought quite a bit of change and cause for celebration at the University. From the chancellor’s installation ceremony to the expansion of DU’s urban campus, from a footprint in the mountains to a Homecoming weekend of wins for women’s soccer (two wins away), men’s hockey (two wins at home), women’s volleyball (two wins away) and men’s soccer (win at home), it was a great day for DU several days in a row.

In reading about the James C. Kennedy Mountain Campus, I hope you’ll get as intrigued as I did about all the possibilities for the entire DU community, beginning with our first-year students, to explore and become inspired at this place. I found it exciting to read about and meet the DU alum and philanthropist whose generosity and passion made the mountain campus a reality for us.

In “New advertising campaign showcases DU’s DNA,” you’ll learn about the launch of DU’s new fall marketing campaign targeted to prospective undergraduate students. In partnership with Undergraduate Admission, the Division of Marketing and Communications (MarComm) launched display, search-engine and social media ads in the Denver, Chicago, Houston, Portland and Los Angeles markets. MarComm partnered with a local, alumni-owned production company, A Collective Us, this summer to create DU’s first-ever 30-second brand commercial.

With a “For the Difference” theme, the campaign highlights the University’s vision and longstanding commitment to serving the public good. To celebrate this University milestone, we partnered with the Division of Athletics and Recreation and University Advancement to share a sneak peek of the commercial with our alumni and season ticketholders prior to the campaign’s launch. In conjunction with athletics, the commercial will air through over-the-top (OTT) streaming TV and broadcast TV. Denverites will be able to see the commercial on Rocky Mountain Public Media and view display ads on local buses, light rail and at Denver International Airport.

Drawing on authentic storytelling that resonates with all our audiences, as well as enthusiastic support from the DU community, our goal is to engage new markets more meaningfully, build a robust student pipeline and, ultimately, move the University forward.
