In September 1965, while in Denver for the dedication of the University’s Harper Humanities Gardens, Lady Bird Johnson, then first lady of the United States, made the connection between verdant grounds and a fertile education environment.
“I am glad to know the American student of tomorrow will not be doomed to cement campuses, but will always have this jewel of greenery, flowing water and fountains,” she remarked.
Today’s students enjoy a campus that doubles as a postcard setting. Colorful flower beds and stands of mature trees offer respite from city concrete and traffic. They also integrate seamlessly with buildings designed with the student experience in mind.
