Lamont students have been working hard the past few weeks to put together their second full-length opera this academic year. The fall production of Faust has many eager to hear more from the Opera Theatre Program and the Lamont Symphony Orchestra. The spring opera, Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, runs April 19–22 at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts.
“The Marriage of Figaro is generally regarded as one of the true masterpieces of the operatic genre,” says director Kenneth Cox. “It has gorgeous music with tunes that will stay in your head for weeks afterward. If you haven’t seen an opera before, this is the perfect show to attend.”
Lamont alumnus Cody Medina, who sang the role of Figaro when Lamont first performed the opera in 2004, will return to join a student cast and orchestra for this large production with professional sets and costumes.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. April 19, 20 and 21 and 2:30 p.m. April 22 in Gates Concert Hall at the Newman Center. Tickets, $11-$35, are available at the Newman Center box office. Parking is free at the Newman Center parking garage.
